Materials for Your Kitchen Countertop

Your kitchen counter dominates your kitchen. It’s where all of the action happens which is why changing it can completely change the tone of the room. As a simple makeover, it can be done easily. All you have to do is replace the top. Here are a few options that you can choose from:

  • Laminate. If you’re on a tight budget, a laminate countertop may be the one for you. Made of layers bonded to particleboard, they are usually pre-made and are available in a limited number of shapes and colors. They are pretty lightweight and are easy to maintain; making them perfect for your starter home’s countertop.

  • Tile. Another affordable option is tile. Tile actually covers quite a few different types of tiles; ceramic and porcelain tiles are popular but stone tiles are also available at a pricey mark-up. They are durable though and are resistant to stains and dirt.

  • Marble. For those who’ve got money to burn, marble is the elegant choice. Visitors will be impressed looking at your countertop. It’s also perfect for those who want to bake a lot of bread; it keeps constantly cool and disperses heat well.

  • Granite. Granite is another high-end option. The mottling and patterns make for a great centerpiece, and it’s durable enough to stand up against knife nicks, heat, and the passage of time. Unfortunately, you’ll have to add some stain covers, because it isn’t stain resistant.
